About the Author

John Orrelle is a retired college instructor with an abiding interest in American sporting and wildlife art.

His writing has appeared in a variety of outdoor periodicals, including Gray's Sporting Journal, Fly Fisherman and Field & Stream.

An early trustee for the American Museum of Fly Fishing, his book Fly Reels of the Past is a pioneering treatise on vintage tackle and a standard among collectors.

More recently John Orrelle has published a comprehensive two-volume set of books on the legendary artist and waterfowler David Hagerbaumer (Sporting Images and The Art of a Sporting Life).

Currently he lives in LaConner, Washington.

An avid fly fisherman, he has a particular affection for brook trout, sea-run cutthroats, and bluegills.

John also enjoys upland hunting with a special interest in grouse and snipe.
